The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) buses provide transport within and outside the state. The important GSRTC bus depot is located at the sector-11 (Pathikashram). The buses running between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar are also operated through Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation. The Gandhinagar got its city bus service in August 2009. The city bus service is nice and timely service. In the beginning stage of the city transportation service, about 11 buses operating on compressed natural gas had been allocated for service. The Gandhinagar Railway Station which is referred to as Gandhinagar Capital is placed in the Sector 14. The numerous trains operating on the western zones also go from the Gandhinagar city. Presently there are five trains operating from Gandhinagar Railway Station wherein three trains are express trains and two trains are MEMU trains. The Jaipur to Bandra Garib Rath train, Haridwar mail for Delhi, Haridwar and Shanti express for Indore Junction BG are the most important express trains operating via Gandhinagar Railway Station. The Ahmedabad Railway Station is the closest railway station and 25.1 kilometers away from the Gandhinagar city. The Ahmedabad Railway Station provides connectivity with most of the important cities of India. The other closest railway station is Kalol Railway Station that is 20.2 kilometers from Gandhinagar. One can reach Gandhinagar from Northern and Eastern India via Kalol Railway Station. Metrolink express for Gandhinagar-Ahmedabad (MEGA): The government of Gujarat is also planning to set up a metro rail link between Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad which will be called as Ahmedabad Metro.
